China’s second domestically built large cruise ship has embarked on a 12-day maiden sea trial, marking a critical milestone before its official delivery as the country accelerates development of its cruise tourism industry.
Constructed by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, the vessel set sail from Shanghai with a multinational technical team of 937 professionals from 12 countries onboard.
During the sea trial, the team will conduct 149 testing and verification tasks to assess the ship’s navigation systems, power performance, safety standards and overall operational readiness.
Named Adora Flora City, the cruise ship measures 341 meters in length and has a gross tonnage of 141,900. It features 2,130 cabins and suites, accommodating up to 5,232 passengers. As the sister ship to Adora Magic City, the new vessel incorporates upgrades in spatial design, smart technologies and onboard passenger experience.
The ship is scheduled for delivery on Nov. 6, after which it will operate international cruise routes from the Nansha International Cruise Home Port in Guangzhou.
The project reflects China’s growing capabilities in high-end shipbuilding and its ambition to become a key player in the global cruise market.
