As fuel prices continue to rise amidst global energy uncertainties, more consumers in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) are turning to electric and hybrid vehicles, with Chinese brands becoming increasingly attractive options.
In showrooms across the capital Sarajevo, brands such as Geely and Chery are gaining attention for their competitive pricing, advanced technology, and extended warranties. These factors offer an appealing alternative for consumers facing the pressure of rising household budgets.
Zvezdana Stojakovic, a TV host at Radio and Television of BiH, shared her positive impressions after testing several Chinese electric vehicle (EV) models. She was impressed by their quality, design, and driving stability, noting that Chinese manufacturers have made significant progress in recent years. She believes electric vehicles will become the standard in the long run, offering lower operating costs and greater environmental benefits.
Automotive expert Dino Subasic highlighted that BiH is following a broader regional trend toward electrification. The market share of Chinese brands has increased from around 3 percent last year to approximately 4 percent by March 2026. Subasic noted that Chinese brands are pioneers in the transition, offering environmentally friendly solutions and increasingly competitive products. Hybrid vehicles, he added, are serving as a practical bridge to full electrification.
Economist Igor Gavran pointed out that Chinese EV brands have advantages in technology, battery performance, and digitalization. Chinese manufacturers were among the first to develop and commercialize EVs, offering competitive products across various aspects while maintaining relatively reasonable prices.
Industry observers predict that with improving technology, competitive pricing, and growing environmental awareness, Chinese electric vehicles are set to play an increasingly important role in BiH’s automotive market.
