The 47th World Congress of Vine and Wine will be held in Yinchuan, capital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, from October 12 to 16, marking the first time the prestigious event will be hosted in Asia and in China since its founding in 1924.
The congress will be held alongside the 24th General Assembly of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) and is jointly organized by the OIV and the Ningxia regional government.
Themed “Building a New Global Landscape for the Vine and Wine Industry,” the event will focus on transformation, innovation and sustainability amid evolving global challenges. Four main sessions will cover viticulture, winemaking, economics and law, and health and safety.
Key discussions will center on improving grape production resilience, advancing winemaking technologies, strengthening legal and economic support under changing market conditions, and integrating sustainability and health principles throughout the wine value chain.
Ningxia has emerged as one of China’s leading wine-producing regions. The eastern foothills of Helan Mountain form the country’s largest contiguous wine grape production area, with 607,000 mu (approximately 40,467 hectares) under cultivation, accounting for nearly 42 percent of China’s total wine grape area.
The region is home to 261 wine enterprises, including 130 wineries, producing about 140 million bottles annually.
Beyond production, the wine industry has become a major driver of tourism in Ningxia. Local wineries attract more than 3.7 million visitors each year, generating over 50 billion yuan in combined economic benefits.
The upcoming congress is expected to enhance the international visibility of China’s wine sector and further position Ningxia as a rising global wine hub.
