China-Europe Railway Express Hits 130,000 Trips

The China-Europe Railway Express marked a major milestone on May 9 as its 130,000th freight train departed from Zhengzhou, capital of Henan Province, bound for Hamburg, Germany.

According to China State Railway Group Co., Ltd., the total cargo value transported via the service has exceeded 520 billion U.S. dollars.

Over the years, the network has been continuously optimized. It now operates 93 scheduled routes with a designed speed of 120 kilometers per hour. Currently, 129 Chinese cities run China-Europe Railway Express services, connecting 235 cities across 26 European countries and more than 100 cities in 11 Asian nations, covering most of the Eurasian continent.

Since its launch, freight rates have fallen by more than 40 percent, enhancing cost efficiency for exporters and importers. The trains now carry over 50,000 types of goods across 53 categories.

Major exports from China include automobiles and auto parts, machinery, electronics, and electrical equipment. Imports via the railway include European timber, pulp, specialty agricultural products, and consumer goods.

The continued expansion of the China-Europe Railway Express highlights its growing role in strengthening Eurasian connectivity, supporting supply chain stability, and facilitating trade under the Belt and Road framework.
