Hong Kong Strengthens Belt and Road Cooperation to Support Global Business Expansion

Hong Kong is stepping up its role in promoting international business cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), with new measures designed to help companies expand into overseas markets and strengthen regional economic connectivity.

According to Hong Kong Financial Secretary Paul Chan, the city aims to support enterprises from Belt and Road partner economies by reducing transaction costs, improving cross-border business opportunities, and creating a more efficient platform for international cooperation.

Speaking ahead of the 11th Belt and Road Summit, Chan said this year’s event will introduce a new “Go Global” session dedicated to helping Chinese mainland enterprises explore overseas markets and build international partnerships.

The summit will also feature discussions on several fast-growing industries, including artificial intelligence (AI), clean energy, the low-altitude economy, and urban development. In addition to conference sessions, participants will take part in business visits and networking activities designed to encourage practical cooperation between governments, enterprises and investors.

Hong Kong continues to strengthen its position as an international financial center serving Belt and Road markets. Official data show that more than 100 companies from Belt and Road partner countries are listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, with a combined market capitalization exceeding HK$340 billion (approximately US$43.4 billion).

The city’s well-established legal system, international financial services, professional advisory capabilities and global capital markets have made it an attractive gateway for companies seeking investment, financing and cross-border business opportunities.

Chan reaffirmed that Hong Kong will continue leveraging its unique advantages under the “One Country, Two Systems” framework to deepen international cooperation and facilitate economic exchanges between China and Belt and Road economies.

As regional infrastructure investment, digital transformation and sustainable development continue to create new opportunities, Hong Kong is positioning itself as a key platform for international collaboration, helping businesses connect with global markets while supporting long-term regional economic growth.
